HPV Cervical Screen-A-Thon

We're proud to be one of the 40+ clinics across Northwestern Ontario participating in Cervical Screen-a-thon this April!

The cervical screening test has replaced the Pap test because it's better at helping prevent cancer.

The test checks for types of human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus that can sometimes cause cervical cancer in people with a cervix.

It feels just like getting a Pap test, and you also need to be screened less often (5 years vs. 3 years)!

If you're between the ages of 25-69 and have a cervix, regular cervical screening tests every 5 years can catch changes early before they turn into cancer.

People can get HPV from having sexual contact of any kind with another person.

There are more than 100 types of HPV and they can cause changes to the cells of the cervix. With some types of HPV, these cell changes can turn into cervical cancer over time if they are not treated.

Cervical screening is for anyone with a cervix, aged 25-69, who has ever been sexually active including:

- Women

- Two-Spirit people

- Transmasculine people

- Non-binary people

If you're due for cervical screening, now is a great time to book! Call us at 807-222-3728 to book your appointment and visit tbrhsc.net/screenathon for more information including a full list of participating sites.
